| Purpose/Function | The Louisiana Special School District (SSD) shall be responsible for providing special education and related services to any student with disabilities who is enrolled in any state-operated facility as a resident of the facility and for providing appropriate educational services to any eligible student enrolled in any state-operated mental health facility as a resident of the facility, when the facility releases the student to SSD for educational purposes. SSD also supervises and oversees the administration of the BESE special schools. The Louisiana special schools are Louisiana School for the Deaf (LSD) and Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired (LSVI), and are state-operated schools providing educational programs and services for residential and/or day students. |
