| Purpose/Function | The Commission is currently known as the Lafourche Parish Game and Fish Commission and the state lands that it manages is known as the Lake Fields / Lake Long Preserve. The Preserve (includes Lake Fields, Lake Long, and surrounding state lands. Goals and/or activities of the Commission center around the following un-prioritized list: • camp lease management • commercial harvest permits (alligators, nutria, etc.) • improving water quality and habitat • increasing fish and wildlife populations • enhancing the recreational and tourism potential of the Preserve |

| Notes | The Commission has been very active in habitat enhancement and restoration: A comprehensive Lake Fields/Lake Long restoration plan was developed. The Commission contributed $50,000 to a 2013 cooperative project with the North Lafourche Levee District to dredge and deepen lower Bayou Folse and to construct shoreline terraces along the northern Lake Fields shoreline. The shoreline terraces stabilized the shorelines while deepening lower Bayou Folse facilitated the flow of degraded upper Bayou Folse into Company Canal rather than through Lake Fields. In 2015, the Commission funded ($40,000) a project in to close some of the lower Bayou Folse cuts into Little Lake to reduce damage to the interior marsh due to vessels and wave action. In 2012 and 2016, the Commission funded trash cleanups in Lake Fields. Several grant applications were submitted to secure funds for restoration projects. In 2019, The Commission entered into a cooperative agreement with Ducks Unlimited to apply for coastal use permits and conduct preliminary engineering for a hydrological restoration project in Lake Fields and Lake Long. The Commission will contribute $250,000 and Lafourche Parish $100,000 to project construction. |
