| Purpose/Function | The seven members of the Committee on Parole are appointed by the Governor. The committee meets on regularly scheduled, publicly announced dates to consider offenders for parole and parole revocation hearings. Act 714 of the 2012 regular legislative session created the Committee on Parole. All members of the Board of Pardons serve on the Committee. There were 2 at-large members established who serve on the Committee on Parole, but do not serve on the Board of Pardons. The new entity, the Board of Pardons and Parole, is funded through the Department of Public Safety & Corrections, Corrections Services. As such, beginning in FY 13, the budgets for the 2 boards were also combined. |
