| Purpose/Function | Louisiana Children’s Cabinet was created in 1992, reauthorized in 1st extraordinary session 1998 (Act 5), again with the juvenile justice reform legislation in 2003 (Act 245) and in 2008 (Act 780). R.S. 46:2600 through 2607, the Louisiana Children’s Cabinet was created as a state agency within the Office of the Governor to facilitate and coordinate policies and budgeting affecting programs and services for children and their families. The Cabinet’s primary function is to coordinate children’s policy across five departments that provide services for young people: Department of Education, Department of Health and Hospitals, Department of Children and Family Services, Louisiana Workforce Commission, and Office of Juvenile Justice. |
