Where can I consult the Louisiana Homeowners Insurance Rate Comparison Guide?

The Louisiana Department of Insurance has launched a new interactive Homeowners Insurance Rate Comparison Guide to enable consumers to compare rates of various insurance companies.

The new online system allows consumers to choose between different scenarios. The examples will not precisely reflect individual circumstances. The sample customer profiles are based on common situations in Louisiana and demonstrate how different factors (e.g. age of home, value of home, multi-line discount, credit score) can impact annual premiums. Consumers can then select a city to find the company from the list of the top carriers in Louisiana that can best provide the coverage and service you need. The guide is not intended to provide an exact estimate of your cost of insurance, but rather to demonstrate the importance of shopping around for the best policy for you.

The interactive Homeowners Insurance Rate Comparison Guide is available online at:  http://www.ldi.state.la.us/consumers/ComparisonGuides.html

The Homeowners Rate Comparison Guide is also available as a brochure on the Web site of the Louisiana Department of Insurance. The rates in the printed brochure were compiled in August 2012.

You can print a copy from the Web site at: http://www.ldi.la.gov/consumers/misc_pubs/Homeowners_Rate_Guide.pdf

Or you can request a copy to be mailed to you by calling 1 (800) 259-5300 or (225) 342-5900.

Information includes premium quotes for various rating situations (e.g., different location, age and value of home).

You may find that a company not included in this guide can best provide the coverage and service you need. These rates are only for comparison purposes.

When shopping for insurance, the Louisiana Department of Insurance advises consumers to look for a company that is financially sound, has a history of good service, and charges a fair rate.

You can contact the Louisiana Department of Insurance to find out if any complaints have been filed against the company or producer (agent) you are considering. In addition, make sure to ask for the company’s A.M. Best rating which shows the financial strength of the company and its ability to meet obligations to policyholders.
