Purpose/Function The primary function of the council is to review and adopt the state uniform construction code, provide training and education of code officials, and accept all requests for amendments of the code. Specifically, the council shall establish the requirements and process for the certification and continuing education of code enforcement officers, code enforcement inspectors, third party providers and building officials and determines whether amendments to the state uniform construction code are justified. If the council determines that an amendment if justified, it may enact such an amendment after finding on the record that the modification provides a reasonable degree of public health, safety, and welfare.

Notes The Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council is responsible for the registration of building codes enforcement officers. There is no fee associated with registration. The operation of the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council is supported by the Fire Marshal Fund and the Council’s administrator is an employee of the Office of State Fire Marshal. Expenditures associated with travel reimbursements of Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council members (appointees of the governor) come from the Fire Marshal Fund.
