Gov. Edwards Announces Boards and Commissions Appointments

Today, Gov. John Bel Edwards announced his appointments to several Louisiana boards and commissions.

Red River Parish Port Commission
The Red River Parish Port Commission was established to regulate the commerce and traffic within the port area, consisting of the entire parish of Red River.

Joseph A. Dill, of Shreveport, was reappointed to the Red River Parish Port Commission. Dill is a farmer and the owner of Dill Farms.

Joe F. Taylor, of Coushatta, was reappointed to the Red River Parish Port Commission. Taylor is retired.

 Lafitte Area Independent Levee District
The purpose of the Lafitte Area Independent Levee District is to build and maintain levees around Lafitte, Barataria, and Crown Point.

Jonathan M. Williams, of Marrero, was appointed to the Lafitte Area Independent Levee District. Williams is an attorney and the owner of The Law Office of Jonathan M. Williams, LLC. He is a veteran of the Louisiana National Guard. As required by statute, he was nominated by the legislative delegation representing that portion of Jefferson Parish located within the levee district.

Louisiana Sentencing Commission
The Louisiana Sentencing Commission serves to develop felony sentencing guidelines that ensure similarly situated offenders are treated similarly and that the penalties imposed are proportionate to the crime committed. Additionally, an examination of the statues and policies related to sentencing is done to relate those provisions and other laws to the use of correctional programming designed to facilitate offender re-entry.

John B. Slattery Jr., of Springhill, was appointed to the Louisiana Sentencing Commission. Slattery is a Springhill City Judge. He will serve as a judge with experience hearing juvenile cases on his docket, as required by statute.

Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council
The Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council is responsible for monitoring and reporting to the governor and the legislature on the implementation and administration of laws pertaining to the administration of workers' compensation claims and making specific recommendations thereon.

Mark B. Kruse, D.C., of Metairie, was reappointed to the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council. Kruse is a chiropractor and the owner of Family Chiropractic Center. He will serve as a representative of the Chiropractic Association of Louisiana on the board.

Arielle M. Collins, Pharm.D., of Lafayette, was appointed to the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council. Collins is a pharmacist with the Lafayette Surgical Specialty Hospital. She will serve as a representative of the 2nd Public Service Commission District.

Jerry J. Jones Jr., of Cloutierville, was appointed to the Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council. Jones is a physical therapist and the co-owner of Guidroz Physical Therapy. He will serve as a representative of business on the board.

Board of Louisiana River Pilot Review and Oversight
The Board of Louisiana River Pilot Review and Oversight provides review and oversight of decisions by the Board of Examiners or Commissioners regarding the actions taken by any pilot while the pilot is acting under his state commission.

Christopher J. Blache, of Madisonville, was appointed to the Board of Louisiana River Pilot Review and Oversight. Blache is a river boat pilot with the Associated Branch Pilots of the Port of New Orleans. He will serve as a pilot member of the Board of Examiners of Bar Pilots for the Port of New Orleans, as required by statute.

Lee A. Jackson, of New Orleans, was reappointed to the Board of Louisiana River Pilot Review and Oversight. Jackson is a river boat pilot with the New Orleans and Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots. As required by statute, he will serve as a pilot member of the Board of Examiners for New Orleans and Baton Rouge Steamship Pilots for the Mississippi River.

Steven B. Vogt, of Kenner, was reappointed to the Board of Louisiana River Pilot Review and Oversight. Vogt is a river boat pilot with the River Port Pilots for the Port of New Orleans. He will serve as a pilot member of the Board of River Port Pilots Commissioners for the Port of New Orleans, as required by statute.

Jackson W. “Jack” Lemon, of Lake Charles, was reappointed to the Board of Louisiana River Pilot Review and Oversight. Lemon is a river boat pilot with the River Port Pilots for the Intracoastal Canal, Calcasieu and Sabine Rivers, Bars and Passes. As required by statute, he will serve as a pilot member of the Board of River Port Pilot Commissioners and Examiners for the Calcasieu Waterway.

Capital Area Groundwater Conservation District
The mission of the Capital Area Ground Water Conservation District is to provide for the efficient administration, conservation, orderly development, and supplementation of groundwater resources in the parishes of East Baton Rouge, East Feliciana, Pointe Coupee, West Baton Rouge and West Feliciana. The board develops, promotes, and implements management strategies to provide for the conservation, preservation, protection, recharging, and prevention of waste of the groundwater resources over which it has jurisdictional authority.

Ryan C. Scardina, of Baton Rouge, was appointed to the Capital Area Groundwater Conservation District. Scardina is a Technical Services Manager with the Baton Rouge Water Company. As required by statute, he was nominated by and will serve as a representative of municipal users in the district.

Louisiana Geographic Information Systems Council
The Louisiana Geographic Information Systems Council (LGISC) was created by the state Legislature to eliminate duplication of effort and unnecessary redundancy in data collections and systems and to provide for integration of geographically-related data bases to facilitate the policy and planning purposes of the state of Louisiana.

Warren L. Kron Jr., of Prairieville, was reappointed to the Louisiana Geographic Information Systems Council. Kron is the Geographic Information Systems Manager of the City of Baton Rouge and Parish of East Baton Rouge. As required by statute, he was nominated by the Louisiana Municipal Association.

Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners
The Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners prescribes minimum curricula and standards for practical nurses, examines and licenses qualified applicants, accredits practical nurse schools and courses, and conducts hearings upon charges calling for discipline of a licensee.

Brent O. Campanella, M.D., of Baton Rouge, was reappointed to the Louisiana State Board of Practical Nurse Examiners. Campanella is a self-employed physician. As required by statute, he was nominated by the Louisiana State Medical Society and will serve as a physician member on the board.

Louisiana Board of Chiropractic Examiners
The Louisiana Board of Chiropractic Examiners serves to license and regulate chiropractors in the state of Louisiana.

Mark B. Kruse, D.C., of Metairie, was reappointed to the Louisiana Board of Chiropractic Examiners. Kruse is a chiropractor and the owner of Family Chiropractic Center.

Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board
The Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board oversees the licensure of professional engineers and professional land surveyors.

Chad C. Vosburg, of New Roads, was appointed to the Louisiana Professional Engineering and Land Surveying Board. Vosburg is an engineer and District Administrator with the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development. As required by statute, he was nominated by the Louisiana Engineering Society and will serve as a licensed professional engineer employed in the field of construction.

Fluoridation Advisory Board
The Fluoridation Advisory Board assists public water systems with obtaining funding to implement water fluoridation, assists the director of the state Oral Health Program with the educating of the general public, and advises the state Fluoridation Program.

Charles B. Foy Jr., D.D.S., of Covington, was reappointed to the Fluoridation Advisory Board. Foy is a dentist and the owner of Charles B. Foy Jr., D.D.S., LLC. As required by statute, he was nominated by the Louisiana Dental Association and will serve as the representative of Region IX.

Louisiana Shrimp Task Force
The Louisiana Shrimp Task Force studies and monitors the shrimp industry and makes recommendations to the state regarding same.

Eric P. Hansen, of Belle Chasse, was reappointed to the Louisiana Shrimp Task Force. Hansen is the owner of C. Hansen and Chris Marine Services. He will serve as an active Louisiana dock buyer of shrimp.

Lance M. Nacio, of Montegut, was reappointed to the Louisiana Shrimp Task Force. Nacio is a commercial fisherman and the owner of Anna Marie Seafood, LLC. As required by statute, he was nominated by the Secretary of the Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and will serve as a member possessing a commercial fisherman's license with a "certified" endorsement.
